Liz Burnett, G.G., RMVP
Liz Burnett is a professional gemmologist and jewellery appraiser who
received her gemmological education from the Gemological Institute of
America, one of the top authorities in gemmology worldwide. Her appraisal
qualification is based on the Master Valuer program. She is also a silversmith
and artist and a feature writer of articles on Artists and Manufacturing Jewellers.
Liz has been in the art, gem and jewellery industry since 1993. Through her
professional career, Liz has acted as art mentor and educational instructor
sharing her experience and skills by teaching gemmological and appraisal
educational programs. She has run her programs in South Africa, the US and
Canada and has been an invited speaker at gem conferences in the US and
Canada.
As a jewellery appraiser, Liz draws her knowledge from first hand experience in
many fields of the industry: from sorting rough diamonds, monitoring rough
diamond sales with buyers, selling polished diamonds and colored gems,
working in retail, marketing, jewellery designing, and writing and teaching a
variety of programs. Through her business she was contracted by the Jewellery
Association of South Africa to teach their product knowledge program and by
De Beers to teach their selling skills program to the South African diamond
and retail jewellery market. She has been working in the US and Canada in
similar fields since 2001.
As a publicist, Liz has written numerous feature articles on artists, jewellers and
art exhibitions for a variety of magazines and newspapers. Liz is also the
Editor and Publisher of Okanagan Art Works, an art publication about artists
and authors from the Okanagan region in BC, Canada, and their original art.
She paints and creates silver objects in her spare time.
